In which countries did broadcasting rights for the World Cup sell for the most?

1

This might not be possible to determine definitively.

Often, the deals that FIFA negotiates for media rights cover multiple events and multiple years. For example, in 2005, ABC/ESPN and Univision purchased the USA rights to all FIFA events from 2007-2014. This included the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, the 2007 and 2011 Women's World Cups, and the 2009 and 2013 Confederations Cups, and includes all TV, Radio, Mobile, and Internet rights. The English language portion of the contract was $100 million, and the Spanish language rights were $325 million. At the time, this USA deal was called "the biggest TV deal in a single country in FIFA's history." (Source)

As the 2010 FIFA World Cup was officially declared open last week amid great colour and emotion, one man in particular beamed with pride. That man was Joseph “Sepp” Blatter , the long-standing President of FIFA , whose bold decision to award the most prestigious competition in world football to South Africa had paid off – in every sense of the term.

While Blatter somewhat unnecessarily reminded us that “the FIFA World Cup is in South Africa,” he could be forgiven for heaving a huge sigh of relief when it started on schedule. It’s not so long ago that experts confidently predicted that FIFA would make a loss on the 2010 World Cup in contrast to the large profits the 2006 tournament generated in Germany.

The President had revealed his anxieties earlier this year in yet another of his bizarre outbursts when he accused the “Old World” of “anti-Africa prejudice” in response to the accusation that slow ticket sales were due to security concerns and high travel...

There are 2 reasons I guess.

1. The high profile people of the host concerned (like the nobility and the Sheiks) can invite their kith and kin and show-off.

2. Another major factor is the revenue generated. Football fans from other countries will flock to the host country in millions, staying in hotels, eating in restraunts, using public transport and of course, buy football tickets.
Therefore, the hosting of such a massive event is very beneficial for a country (or its ruling powers at least)

PS : Beijing, China hosted the 2008 Olympics, another collosal event, and for that very reason, the infrastructure of Beijing and adjoining areas improved a bit. This could be an associated perk with hosting a World Cup or any other major sporting...

New FIFA president Gianni Infantino made expanding the World Cup from its current 32 teams part of his election platform. The cynic within most of us saw it as a naked attempt to pander to countries (particularly outside Europe) who have long been demanding more places at the world's biggest sporting event. And, probably, to some degree they were right.

Now, after talking up a 40-team World Cup, he's going even further, suggesting a 48-nation tournament.

More pandering? Yes and no.

Crazy as it sounds, the suggestion he made on Monday, which will be among those debated by FIFA next January, actually makes more sense than the 40-team World Cup mooted during his campaign. That's because, a 40-team World Cup was just that -- forty teams in the group stage, each playing a minimum of three games. Group winners and the six-best second placed sides would advance. All of this would have added up to more. More games: 76 instead of the current 64. More days: from 30 up to...

1. THE GLASS LABYRINTH

Last July, when the 24 members of the U.S. Women’s National Team rolled down New York City’s Canyon of Heroes, they had every reason to believe they were on top of the world. Days earlier the team had trounced Japan to capture its third Word Cup and now the city was honoring them with a ticker-tape parade, the first ever for a women’s sports team. Their World Cup medals around their necks, the beaming players basked in the admiration of their rapturous fans. Carli Lloyd — who would later be named 2015’s world player of the year — hoisted the World Cup trophy for all to see. Alex Morgan posted photos of herself waving an American flag to her 2 million Twitter followers. Hope Solo,...

Fifa, football's world governing body, has been engulfed by claims of widespread corruption since summer 2015, when the US Department of Justice indicted several top executives.

It has now claimed the careers of two of the most powerful men in football, Fifa President Sepp Blatter and Uefa President Michel Platini, after they were banned for eight years from all football-related activities by Fifa's ethics committee. A Swiss criminal investigation into the pair is also continuing.

Fifa's president Sepp Blatter has always denied any wrongdoing - but in September, he too was made the subject of a Swiss criminal investigation, launched alongside the US inquiry.

The scandal erupted in May, with a raid on a luxury hotel in Zurich and the arrest of seven Fifa executives - conducted at the behest of the US authorities.

In May the US indicted 14 current and former Fifa officials and associates on charges of "rampant, systemic, and deep-rooted" corruption...

World Cup Fever faded pretty quickly here in the United States. In fact, most Americans probably stopped paying attention the second ESPN's mammoth amount of programming ended (which happened quite soon after Germany's last-minute win over Argentina). Jumping back in to replace the soccer programming, was a veritable onslaught of Lebron James coverage, and a NFL preseason coverage that apparently grants an inside look at anything that remotely counts as a story coming out of 32 different training camps across the country. And while many rabid American Football fans chewed anxiously at their fingernails and scrutinized every detail of mock fantasy-draft analyses, over the pond a different kind of rabid football was rejoicing. These football fans, better known as hooligans, were rejoicing over the commencement of the English Premier League (EPL), which for the first time in history will be very easy to watch in America.

Soccer / Football History, Changes and Important Milestones including Players, Teams, Football Association (FA), worldwide appeal, spread and growth

Ancient Foundations:

Outside the United States, the game is known simply as football. In the U.S., American football had staked its claim on the term, and so soccer became the (considerably older) sport's name in America. In this article, we shall refer to the sport as football.

Football Banned By English Kings

The beginnings of football are tough to nail down, at least its most rudimentary origins. Many have traced the game to China during the Han Dynasty, in the 200s C.E. The Chinese played a game called "cuju," literally "kickball," which bears some resemblance to the modern game. It was played with a stitched ball which was often kicked into goals. Its resemblance ends there. From there, similar games sprouted up in Asia, from the Malay Peninsula and Japan to the Pacific Islands and Australia. Across...
