It is one of those days, the swimming lane I am about to plunge into is overcrowded and even though it is marked with the clearly distinctive letters "FAST SWIMMERS", the lane is plagued with leisurely swimming head up breaststrokers and wanna be swimmers standing by the wall and discussing the latest issues in Ukraine. Argh, this sucks and my day's mood is just ruined. Or is it?

I’ve long ago realized that it is a lost battle to try to educate every single person about the etiquette of public pool lane swimming. Instead of joining the online rants about how people should get a clue about what it means to swim in a fast lane, how lifeguards should enforce certain rules and be angry half the time, I decided to make the pool my playground. After all, people are people and always going to be people. Some are ignorant, some don't manage their expectations very well and some just don't know any better or don't realize that they are doing something out of the ordinary when...

Taking a short stroll down the lane from Cerrig y Barcud Cottages, you’ll soon arrive at the Menai Straits. Looking across to the castle of Caernarfon, nestling at the foot of the mountains of Snowdonia, it’s hard to believe that almost 2000 years ago, these very shores bore witness to one of the Romans’ most brutal assaults on the British Isles, the Roman Invasion of Anglesey

The Roman invasion of the island they called Mona Insula in AD60 had been a long time coming.

Julius Caesar long harboured the desire to conquer Britain, but after two brief invasions in 55 & 54BC his attention returned to matters in Rome, and it was many years later in AD43 that Roman Emperor Claudius finally sent his legions for a full-scale invasion of Britain, led by Plautius. Within 4 years, his armies won control of southern Britain. After a decisive battle on the Thames, Plautius called for his Emperor who travelled to accept the Britons’ surrender and declare the island...

PARMA, Ohio — Police arrested a Valley View man in connection with an April 6 home invasion and armed robbery in Parma.

William H. Mareda, 20, is charged with aggravated robbery, according to Parma Municipal Court records.

He appeared in court Monday when a judge set his bond at $75,000, a court clerk said.

Mareda and another man forced their way into a home in the 7300 block of Maplewood Drive about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, and robbed two people at gunpoint, police said. After the two men left the home, they fired at least two shots into a front window.

The victims were not injured.

More arrests are expected in the case, according to police.

Parma and Valley View police arrested Mareda about 11:30 p.m. Friday at his Laurel Lane home, Parma police Lt. Kevin Riley said.

Slardar, the Slithereen Guard

"The surface world will be mine, and I'll start with the swimming pools."

Updated for 6.61x

The mighty king of the Naga race, Slardar was awoken from the depths of the sea after the invasion of the Burning Legion. Finding the world consumed by chaos, he found it a perfect opportunity to strike down the hated Night Elves. Allying with the scourge, Slardar uses his immense strength and power to stun and crush his enemies, and his mighty trident can cleave the strongest armor with ease.

This guide is old, and went through a lot. I created it in 2007. While everyone else played Slardar with the Crush/Stats build, I went for the Crush/Sprint build, and explained my choice well enough to get a lot of positive comments. Soon after, Slardar got buffed and more and more people started to use Sprint.

I updated it in the next summer, in 2008, to...

Within feet of the state line, the northern end of the Grand Strand harbors a unique estuary with local and worldly significance. On a grand scale, Walter Maxwell's 1,780-pound tiger shark - caught from a Cherry Grove pier in 1964 - remains untouched after almost 50 years, and is the only all-tackle world record from South Carolina waters.

But light-tackle anglers recognize this area for an entirely different reason as April arrives.

The two-lane boat ramp on the north end of 53rd Avenue in Cherry Grove gets more than its fair share of traffic, and for good reason. April means flounder around these parts, as Cherry Grove's pocket-sized estuary fills up with hungry flounder moving in from the ocean through Hog Inlet when the rest of the region's fishing barometer remains cold.

The Cherry Grove region has only 1,000 acres of shallow marsh between the mainland and the narrow barrier island that's full of houses and high-rise hotels - and only 10...

Fifty years ago this weekend, a revolution was launched, when the Beatles touched down at John F. Kennedy International Airport. But the Fab Four were just the beginning of the British Invasion, a movement that changed music – and the world – forever. Read on a look for some the major players in the musical revolution.

The Animals: The gritty bad-boy Brit Invasion act from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, best known for gruff singer Eric Burdon and their bluesy riffs.

Years: 1963-69.

Album highlights: "The Animals" (1964); "Animal Tracks" (1965); "Animalisms" (1966).

Songs to know: "The House of the Rising Sun," "We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "It's My Life," "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood."

Inducted into the Rock Hall: 1994.

The Beatles: The mop-topped Fab Four from Liverpool who started the new British revolution. What can we say besides the world loved them, yeah, yeah, yeah – and it was never the same after that plane touched down in New York 50...

HAUGHTON, La. (Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office) -- Bossier Sheriff’s Office detectives and patrol deputies and Haughton Police Department officers arrested a Haughton man Monday afternoon accused of home invasion and kidnapping at another Haughton residence early this morning.

Jeffrey McCoy, 35, of the 500 block of S. Elm in Haughton, was charged with home invasion, second degree kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Bossier Sheriff’s patrol deputies responded to a call around 1 a.m. Monday from residents on East Trails End off of Highway 3227 in Haughton who said McCoy had just busted into their house while carrying a gun.

The male and female residents were acquaintances of McCoy and told deputies he hit the woman in the face with the handgun and then pointed the gun at the man after McCoy forced his way into their residence.

They said McCoy yelled at them, grabbed the woman by her hair and...

Police are asking for the public's help identifying a suspect in a Vestavia Hills home invasion earlier this month.

Vestavia Hills police today released a composite sketch. The intrusion happened May 10 about 8:15 p.m. in the 1700 block of Crosswood Lane.

Vestavia Hills police Capt. Kevin York said the man forced his way into the home in the Crossgate community and then encountered a woman inside. The victim told officers she was in the back of her house when she heard a few loud sounds coming from her front door area.

She went to investigate and came face to face with a black male in the hallway. He was holding a crowbar over his head asking her for her money. They walked to the kitchen area of the house where the victim reached into her purse and grabbed some money and gave it to the suspect, York said.

The suspect then ran back out of the front door and fled the area. Neither the victim nor any neighbors heard a car leave the area, and a tracking dog...
