What are multidisciplinary sports? [closed]

On a recent visit to the University of Colorado, Boulder, I saw some students playing a sport I've never seen before. I'll do my best to describe it.

On a grass field, a rectangle is marked out with string, about 5m by 10m. Inside the rectangle are six balls, about 20 cm in diameter, three red and three blue, placed at specific locations. There are four players, who start out standing outside the rectangle: three at one of the short edges (marked X below) and one at a long edge (marked O). Here is a very crude drawing.

In addition to the four players, there is a fifth person who seems to be a judge.

The play of the game appears to go as follows. The judge calls "Go", and the X players try to run into the rectangle, pick up a ball, and return to their original position. When one of them picks up a ball, the O player runs into the rectangle and tries to tag him.

There seems to be some rules or strategy governing how they do this. The X players can wait...

A transdisciplinary team is one in which members come together from the beginning to jointly communicate, exchange ideas and work together to come up with solutions to problems. A multidisciplinary team is one in which members use their individual expertise to first develop their own answers to a given problem, and then come together -- bringing their individually developed ideas -- to formulate a solution.

Team Models

Three common "Models of Team Practice" are identified by Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health. Along with transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams, interdisciplinary teams are discussed. Each of these models share very similar traits in the sense that a number of individual experts work together to solve cases or resolve issues. Subtle differences begin with the multidisciplinary approach, where individuals each approach a situation or problem from their own perspective and then share findings. Interdisciplinary teams are...

Both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teamwork have been used in healthcare in the past. However, although there is a clear difference between the two approaches to care, many educational researchers and practitioners use these terms interchangeably. The fundamental difference lies in the collaborative care plan that is only developed in interdisciplinary patient interventions, as multidisciplinary care does not emphasize an integrated approach to care.

Multidisciplinary teams are unable to develop a cohesive care plan as each team member uses his or her own expertise to develop individual care goals. In contrast, each team member in an interdisciplinary team build on each other’s expertise to achieve common, shared goals. Therefore, it is crucial to indicate that multidisciplinary teams work in a team; whereas, interdisciplinary teams engage in teamwork.

An interdisciplinary care plan is developed by answering these questions:
1. What are the issues?

Focuses on important aspects of materials chemistry by providing an overview of the theoretical aspects of materials chemistry Summarizes the classical theories of materials chemistry, but also exhibits their engineering applications in response to the current key issues Provides practical equations, figures, and references in the chapters, providing suitable complement to the text

This book focuses on important aspects of materials chemistry by providing an overview of the theoretical aspects of materials chemistry, by describing the characterization and analysis methods for materials, and by explaining physical transport mechanisms in various materials. Not only does this book summarize the classical theories of materials chemistry, but also it exhibits their engineering applications in response to the current key issues. The chapters provide practical equations, figures, and references, providing suitable complement to the text.

Multidisciplinary team working has been implemented in cancer care systems throughout much of Europe, the United States, and Australia, without any clear evidence for its effectiveness. In the UK, multidisciplinary teams have more recently been recommended for the management of other conditions including diabetes,1 stroke and neurological rehabilitation,2 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,3 and coronary heart disease.4 The rationale for introducing multidisciplinary teams is that as the management of disease becomes more complex, it is important to involve all key professional groups in making clinical decisions for individual patients. The widespread introduction of these teams illustrates a recurring paradox in the modern UK National Health Service: we demand an evidence base for individual clinical decisions but not for overall organisational decisions. Here, we describe the implementation of multidisciplinary teams in cancer services in England and review the international...

The Multidisciplinary Team Approach to the Outpatient Treatment of Disordered Eating.

Joy, Elizabeth A. MD; Wilson, Claudia MS, CD, RD; Varechok, Steve LCSW, CSCS

The multidisciplinary team approach to the patient with disordered eating is widely recognized as the best practice. Team members include a physician, a nutritionist, and a mental health professional. All should be experienced in the care of individuals with disordered eating. Each member of the treatment team has unique skills and responsibilities with respect to patient care. However, there is considerable overlap in what each member of the treatment team does to promote recovery from disordered eating. It is important to remember that eating problems exist on a spectrum from disordered eating behaviors that do not meet the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders criteria, to anorexia nervosa, and bulimia...
