What does the batting strike rate signify?

This is covered in Law 41 section 3. It states:

*If a protective helmet belonging to the fielding side is on the ground within the field of play, and the ball while in play strikes it, the ball shall become dead and, except in the circumstances of Law 34 (Hit the ball twice), 5 penalty runs shall then be awarded to the batting side, in addition to the penalty for a No ball or a Wide, if applicable.

Additionally runs completed by the batsmen before the ball strikes the protective helmet shall be scored, together with the run in progress if the batsmen had already crossed at the instant of the ball striking the protective helmet.
See Law 18.10 (Runs scored when the ball becomes dead other than at the fall of a wicket).*

This means that if the batsmen crossed for a run, they remain in their positions as of when the helmet was struck.

So, to answer your specific question, rotation does take place, if it's...

Strike rate refers to two different statistics in the sport of cricket. Batting strike rate is a measure of how frequently a batsman achieves the primary goal of batting, namely scoring runs. Bowling strike rate is a measure of how frequently a bowler achieves the primary goal of bowling, namely taking wickets (i.e. getting batsmen out).

Both strike rates are relatively new statistics, having only been invented and considered of importance after the introduction of One Day International cricket in the 1970s.

Batting strike rate[edit]

International batting strike rates as of January 2004

Batting strike rate is defined for a batsman as the average number of runs scored per 100 balls faced. The higher the strike rate, the more effective a batsman is at scoring quickly.

In Test cricket, a batsman's strike rate is of secondary relevance to his ability to score runs without getting out. This means a Test batsman's most important statistic is...

I feel that everything is in favour of the batting.

The pitches are rarely bowler friendly.
The boundaries are always in at least 5 or 10m.
The field restrictions in the 1st 6 overs

Although Twenty20 can give bowlers favourable stats, Twenty20 gives the bowlers no leeway. If they don't bowl perfectly there punished, and if they do bowl perfectly sometimes lucky slogs can punish them too.

Whilst a batsmen can get lucky in T20, he can edge a couple or sky a ball and get away with it and make 50. Bowlers never get away with it

Then there's antics like Broad being punished for trying to distract the batsmen in his run-up. That's absolute garbage.

Sunny Gavaskar said it in interview yesterday, the batsmen is allowed to move in his crease to try and alter the bowlers length, so why should Broad be punished for trying to disrupt the batsmen.

It's a batsmen's game,...

TL;DR: It's a commonly used metaphor* borrowed from American baseball. In American non-baseball usage it can be used to joyously indicate incredible, 100% success; or it can be used facetiously to indicate complete failure with no successes.

"In every single trial our toxic brew killed all the bedbugs. We're batting a thousand!"

"In every single trial our toxic brew failed to kill a single bedbug." (Sighs): "We're batting a thousand."

Longer answer: "Batting a thousand," refers to a player's Batting average; I.E. how often he gets a Hit (baseball) divided by how many times he's been At bat.

If he got a hit 29 times after 96 at-bats, he would have a .30308333 batting average. This gets rounded to .303 for all intents and purposes. Batting averages are always three-numeral figures like this. But in spoken English the decimal point is dropped, and the number is stated as a figure in the hundreds, for example, "Three-oh-three" or "Three-hundred-three."

Cricket, more than most sports, is full of expressions and terms designed to bewilder the newcomer (and often even the more seasoned follower). In an attempt to unravel some of the stranger terminology, we have put together a cricket glossary. If we are missing anything - and cricket commentators have an annoying habit of inventing new words and phrases - please email us and we will see if we can help.
