The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the 23rd FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's football championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA.

The bidding process was due to start in 2015, with the appointment of hosts previously scheduled for the FIFA Congress on 10 May 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. On 10 June 2015, it was announced the bidding process has been postponed, and the bidding process will resume in 2020, amid corruption allegations around the previous tournaments, due to be held in 2018 (Russia), as well as in 2022 (Qatar).

Format

Then-UEFA head Michel Platini had suggested in Jaunary 2015 an expansion of the tournament to 40 teams.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced that he backed an expansion of the tournament to 48 national teams, including that of the host nation. This new format of the finals, raised from the previous 32 team format, was announced 4 October 2016. Infantino stated that...

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (Dec. 3, 2016) – The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team once again left everything on the field before falling 1-0 to an extremely talented Japan side in the Third-Place Match of the 2016 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup.

“Anybody that watched the games knows that Japan is absolutely world class,” said U.S. head coach Michelle French. “Being able to track and manage their movement off the ball is something that’s very difficult. We did our best. I couldn’t be more impressed with Japan as a team, but on the flip side our players took every single punch that they threw until that goal at the end. We almost found a way, as we’ve done all tournament, to get a goal and get back in the game.”

Japan dominated possession as the USA battled to keep the game scoreless until the very end of regulation.

While Japan had most of the ball and shots, the USA limited the highly dangerous attempts and goalkeeper Casey Murphy was always there to...

Three big weeks of football are kicking off on Saturday, with the start of the Fifa U-20 World Cup.

At least 4680 minutes, 78 hours, or 3 and a quarter days of continuous game time will be played. In that time, 504 players will take the field from 24 national teams in 52 matches across seven different host cities, all in New Zealand.

Some of those players are hot prospects to be the next Messi, Ronaldo or Maradona.

Here are our players to watch.

Angel Correa - Argentina

Compared by many with Argentinian great Sergio Aguero for both his appearance and skill, 20 year old striker Correa is already strutting his stuff with the big dogs.

Last year he signed a five-year contract with La Liga holders...

On Monday, U.S. Soccer announced the five nominees for 2016 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year. This year's nominees include forwards Crystal Dunn and Alex Morgan, midfielders Tobin Heath and Carli Lloyd and defender Becky Sauerbrunn. Today we make the case for WNT midfielder and co-captain, and 2016 finalist for the FIFA Best Women's Player of the Year: Carli Lloyd.

In 2016, U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder and co-captain Carli Lloyd, the reigning FIFA Women’s Player of the Year and U.S. Soccer Female Payer of the Year, scored 17 goals and recorded 11 assists (a team-leading mark) in 21 games.

The total was one short of her career best 18 goals that she scored in her spectacular 2015, but she also did so in five fewer games, thus making her totals even more impressive. Her 17 scores in 2016 brought her total to 96 international goals, just four shy of becoming the sixth player in U.S. history to score 100 or more. Lloyd, who very fittingly scored the...
